Hannover – central located in Europe Its central location at the heart of the European transport network is just one of numerous trump cards that the Hannover region has in its hand. The A7 (running north-south), A2 (running east-west) and A1 (running northeast-northwest) motorways are among the major road connections in Central Europe. The majority of cities in Lower Saxony are connected to the ICE train network of Deutsche Bahn, which provides direct links to all German conurbation areas. The central arrival and departure point for those travelling by plane is Hannover Langenhagen Airport (HAJ) just outside the gates of the state capital of Hannover. All major European holiday destinations can be reached directly from Hannover Airport. Four more international airports are also located nearby: Hamburg Airport (HAM), Paderborn Airport (PAD ), MĂĽnster / OsnabrĂĽck Airport (FMO) and Bremen Airport (BRE ). Hannover’s central bus station (ZOB) is one of the most modern in Germany. Buses from all the main intercity routes and major tour operators stop here. The Mittelland Canal, Germany’s longest man-made waterway, connects Hannover to the continent’s biggest sea and inland ports.

Arrival by car

Hannover is a major hub within the German Autobahn network, with the Hannover economic region benefitting greatly from its central location within the European transport network. With the A2 and A7 Autobahns, the main north-south and east-west road links intersect here.

The A2 provides a fast and convenient route from the directions of North Rhine-Westphalia and Berlin, while the A7 leads straight to Hannover – whether you’re coming from Hamburg or Munich.

Hannover city centre is an environmental zone, which means only vehicles with a green environmental badge are allowed into the central “Cityring”.

Coming from the A 37 or the Messeschnellweg (B3), take the Weidetorkreisel exit and turn into Karl-Wiechert-Allee (signposted Medical Park, MHH). At the first intersection, turn right into Rudolf-Pichlmayr-StraĂźe, at the end of the street you will find the Niedersachsen Forum (Rotunda).

Arrival by train

With the fast ICE rail service, Hannover is just over an hour from Hamburg, while Berlin is around 90 minutes away. Even travelling from Munich, you will be in Hannover within four and a half hours.

Additionally there are various international transport routes passing through Hannover, making the city easily accessible from abroad as well. Hannover is also well connected with the rest of Lower Saxony thanks to the regional transport network, with the Hannover region’s new S-Bahn lines providing optimal access to the surrounding areas.

From Hanover main station, take tram line 3 (direction AltwarmbĂĽchen) or 9 (direction Fasanenkrug) to the stop „Spannhagengarten“, from there take bus line 137 (direction Pferdeturm) to the stop „Neue-Land-StraĂźe“. At the intersection, turn into Rudolf-Pichlmayr-StraĂźe, at the end of the street you will find the Rotunde.
